Ram Kumar Basu Thakur
Two members of the Basu Thakur family went to Dhaka for education in English in the year 1838. Their name was Sri Ram Kumar Basu Thakur and Sri Bhagoban Chandra Basu Thakur. Sri Ram Kumar Basu Thakur was the first member of the family who worked as a Munsif and later he also became a deputy magistrate.

Sri Gopal Krishna Basu Thakur of ‘Boro Badi’ had two sons. One of them was Sri Ram Kumar and the other one was Sri Horo Kumar. Sri Ram Kumar was born on April 1824 in Ramnagar village which was under Chandpur Subdivision. During his first Fourteen years of his life he stayed in his uncle’s house and studied Bengali. He then went to Dhaka’s Collegiate School for English Education. When he was only sixteen years old he married the daughter of the Chief Deputy Collector of Chattagram, Sri Gourgopal Pal who resided in Chitrakut (Chital coat) of Bikrampur District. But his wife died within two years. He then received both junior and senior scholarship after passing both the exams. After finishing his studies he started working in the office of the Commissioner of Excise Department where he was appointed Head Clerk and used to receive a salary of Rupees Sixty.

Later he married a girl from the Guha Thakurta family of Banaripara. A few years later he passed the Munsif exam and in 1853 he himself became Munsif. In 1858 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Magistrate and was transferred to Dhaka. From 1868 he was posted to many places like Tamluk, Dhaka, Alipore and Hooghly. In 1871 he was transferred to Kalna as Deputy Magistrate. After working there for seven years in 8 January, 1878 he died there.
