Sri Kesablal Basu Thakur was the third son of Dr. Surendranath Basu Thakur. He passed his engineering degree from Jadavpur Engineering College in 1934 and started working as an intern in the Waterworks Department of Kolkata Corporation. He joined The Royal Technical College in Glasgow in 1938 for further studies. From there he passed the engineering degree in 1943 and received Diploma in D.R.T.C. In the same year he received a Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He passed some special Diplomas from England like Industrial Administration, Sanitary Engineering and Fuel Technology etc. In 1946 he became the President of Indian Student Union in Glasgow. Because of the war he couldn’t return back to his country. He was appointed in Naval Research and was in construction department. In 1950 Sri Kesablal was the first Indian who returned from England as a coveted Engineer. Upon returning he joined I.G.N and R.S.N as Deputy Superintending Engineer. Then he went to a company called A.P.V. From there he retired in 1962 as Principal Executive Engineer.
