Dr. Prafulla Chjandra Basu Thakur
Dr. Prafulla Chandra Basu Thakur was the fourth son of Sri Ashwini Kumar Basu Thakur and was born on 21st of June 1890. In 1911 he acquired his M.A degree in Mathematics from The University of Calcutta. Again in 1916 he acquired another M.A degree in history and received Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee Gold Medal for that. In 1920 he received his PhD from University of Calcutta. By then he also passed his law exam from Calcutta.

He joined Calcutta University as a lecturer in 1911. In 1916 he became the lecturer of Lahore College. In 1917 he left Lahore College and became the lecturer of Holkar College in Indore. He was promoted to the post of Principal of Holkar College in Indore later in his career. In 1940 he retired from Holkar College. After retirement he continued his teaching profession and worked as Principal of Udaipur College from 1945 to 1947.

Dr. Prafulla Chandra Basu Thakur became the Vice Chancellor of Agra University for three consecutive terms from 1933 to 1941. The post at that time was a non-salaried or an honorary post. While working there in Agra he also worked as one of the Chairman in Ajmer‘s Marwaha Board of Education. He was also a member of Indian Historical Committee.

The non-resident Bengalis living in India have quite a few famous names among them. One of them is a resident of Indore, Dr. Prafulla Chandra Basu Thakur. He was a student of University of Calcutta. Later he worked there as a lecturer too. He was the Principal and also the President of Rajputana and Central India’s Intermediate Education Board. He then worked as a Vice-Chancellor of Agra University. He worked as an advisor of Sri M.S. Bappa. Sri M.S. Bappa was a delegate of the Indian Government representing The League of Nations; he was also the Prime Minister of Indore and then became Rai Bahadur. Dr. Prafulla Chandra Basu Thakur accompanied Sri Bappa in Geneva. On 5th of April 1975 Dr. Prafulla Chandra Basu Thakur died in Kolkata leaving behind his education and his works.
