Dr. Hemanta Kumar Basu Thakur passed from Kolkata medical College a few years before Sri Sanath Kumar Basu Thakur. After passing the L.M.S. degree from Kolkata Medical College he moved on to practice first from Bahrampur and then from Dhaka. He was born in 1852. During those times the general practice was that the doctors were the one who supplied the medicines to the patients. Dr. Hemanta Kumar Basu Thakur’s dispensary was situated in an area called Potwatoli in Dhaka and the name of his dispensary was ‘Blackman and Company’. His dispensary was the biggest medicine shop at that time in Dhaka. He has also the family physician of the Nawab of Dhaka. In 1903 he died when he was only 51 years old.
