Dr. Sachindranath Basu Thakur
Dr. Sachindranath Basu Thakur was the son of 19th century engineer Sri Manmohan Basu Thakur. He was his youngest son and was born on 23rd of September, 1915. His father died when he was in his youth. After the death of his father he came to Malkhanagarh with all his family members. He studied in the village school till Class VIII. Then he moved on to Kolkata and studied in Scottish Church Collegiate School. In 1932 he received scholarship in Matric examination from the same school. He sat for I.S.C Examination from Presidency College in 1934 and in 1936 he passed B.S.C Degree Examination from the same college with Chemistry Honors. In 1938 he passed his M.S.C from Calcutta University in Chemistry and came third in the University with first division marks. He then got a job at ‘Indian jute Mill Association Research Institute’. From there he went to England for further research. He did his PhD in Microbiology from London University in 1947. He then returned back to the country. He then joined his previous Institute as a Chief Biologist.

Though he was a student of Science he still loved literature like many other Bengali people. Examples of these people were Sri Rajsekhar Basu and Bholaichand Mukhopadhyay who were really famous. Dr. Sachindranath Basu Thakur started practicing literature when he was still in school. He used to write stories and poetry when he was in school. His creation was left hidden in his personal books and diaries. He was very shy and never thought of publishing his works. That is why he never contacted any publisher to publish his works. When he grew up couldn’t find most of these books. First time his works were published was when he was in college. His writings were critically acclaimed. His first book ‘Chaya Puri’ was published in 1940. This book was a Sci-fi Adventure Thriller and a lot of people loved it. After that he wrote many books in different subjects. He wrote books dedicated to signs like ‘Pragoitihaas r Manus’ ‘Biswabichitra’ ‘Manus r Age’ ‘Sovvotaa r Age’ etc. He also wrote travel stories like ‘Sob Harano r Deshe’ ‘Deshantori’. He wrote delightful compositions like ‘Mihi o Mota’. His stories included ‘Notun Thikana’, ‘Sath Samudro’, ‘Sita r Soyombor’, ‘Sonibaar r Sambad’ etc. He also wrote stories in English which included ‘Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose’. This book was translated in many different languages.

In 1965 he received ‘Ravindra Puraskar’ for his story ‘Pragoitihaas r Manus’. Later in his life this book was edited, rewritten and was published in three episode. Other than that he also published many people in many science journals all over the world. These were mainly his research in the field of science.. He was unmarried. He was very curious about different subjects and he left his research for us to study further.
