Welcome To Malkhanagar & Basu Thakur Family
Binay Kumari Dhar (Basu Thakur)
We have discussed earlier about Sri Kashi Chandra Basu Thakur in several places in this book. Smt Binoy Kumari was the daughter of Sri Kashi Chandra Basu Thakur. She was born in 1872. Her talent in literature was identified at a very young age. When he was just 16 years old in 1888, her first book was published. The name of the book was ‘Naba Mukul’. Her second book was published in 1891 and the name of that book was ‘Nirjhar’. Even before the publication of her books her talent showcased in magazines like ‘Sahityo’, ‘Bharati’, ‘Pradeep’ etc. So it can be said that between the ages of 14 to 19 her literary talent had attracted attention from the literary fraternity of Bengal.

In 1891 she was married to Dr. Bharat Chandra Dhar. She was like any other Bengali woman who was dedicated to her family and the duties for the family. She had two daughters and five sons. All her children well brought up by her. She also did her duty for other members of her family. She used to write and practice literature while cooking. We can say that all her writings were not published because she created these whenever she wanted to write. However, her stories like ‘Behula and Maa Laxmi’ was published in a magazine called ‘Sahityo’ and were loved by all.

She wrote a poetry on the occasion of Independence Day of India on 15th of August, 1947 and named it ‘Bondona’. The poetry was published In ‘Poorvanchal’ which was a magazine edited by Sri Jotindramohan Bagchi. Since she was so good with her mother tongue, she published all her works in Bengali. She wrote a lot of poetries for her kin and her family members. These poetries depicted the love she had for her close and dear ones. Most of these poetries were not published. Among all of these poetries a single poetry was published in 1943 in a magazine called ‘Coochbihar Darpan’.

Sri Jogendranath Gupta discussed about Smt. Binod Kumari Dhar in a book called ‘Bong r Mahila Kobi’. According to him the poetries she used to write at first showed a lot of sadness. This can be found in a poetry called ‘K Bujibe’. Later her poetry presented thoughts of love and surrender. This can be found in a poetry she wrote which was called ‘Ratri r Proti Rajanigondha’.

Soon after the death of her 4th son Sri Kanak Kumar she lost her daughter in law Smt. Sudha within a few months. She wrote a poetry dedicating a prayer towards the Almighty king (God) and that poetry became immortal. This poetry is given below.
