Malkhanagar is a famous village in East Bikrampur Pargana of the former Dhaka. The village is located in Sirajdikhan upazila of Bikrampur pargana. Malkhanagar is bounded on the east by Taltala Bazar and Ichhamati river, on the north by Furshail, on the east by Kazirbagh, on the south by Naishing, on the west by Devipura and Kaivartsar. In the whole of Bikrampur, this region was quite famous for various reasons. The Taltola Launch Ghat was well known as the gateway to Bikrampur. In the seventeenth century, the people of East Bengal, especially in the coastal areas of Dhaka, Faridpur and Barisal, were oppressed by the Mugs and the Portuguese pirates. The Mughals and the Portuguese used to kidnap the crops, ornaments, money and women of the Bengalis. In 1664, Aurangzeb appointed Shaista Khan as the Subedar of Bengal to protect the people of Bengal from such atrocities. Soon after the appointment of Shaista Khan Subedar, Devidas Basu Thakur was appointed Kanungo of Nawara Mahal consisting of 55 parganas. The huge zamindari Seresta was in Dhaka; The annual income was about 14 lakh rupees in the then currency. Devidas Basu Thakur's great-grandfather was Gopal Basu Thakur, and out of 4 sons of Gopal Basu Thakur, the third sons was Govinda Basu Thakur and Debidas Basu Thakur was the first son of Govinda Basu Thakur. Devidas Basu Thakur, was originally the founder of Malkhanagar. Before the partition of the country in 1947, the Basu Tthakurs used to enjoy the tax free income in Basubazar, Narinda and Dayaganj mahallas of Dhaka. Devidas Basu Thakur built the Kachari Bari of Nawara Mahal, two miles south of the then flowing Dhaleshwari river, in which all the records and valuables of the Serestas of Basu Thakurs’ were kept. The Kachari house was known to the locals as 'Malkhana'. The name of this village is 'Malkhananagar' from 'Malkhana'. Over time, it became known as 'Malkhanagar' in the mouths of the local people. However, in the past documents, the name of this village is also seen as 'Basurnagar' in the eighteenth century. At that time this area was included in Deulbhog mouza.
